Global resilience through knowledge-based cooperation: a new Protocol for Science Diplomacy

The world is currently dealing with one of the most severe health, economic and social crises in recent memory, through coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Scholars are converging on perspective that traditional means addressing these have served their time. On additional backdrop a global political landscape transition, realising post-pandemic recovery will require new modes international collaboration scientific knowledge expertise figuring more prominently. A smart approach to science diplomacy—to resilience knowledge-based cooperation—does not prescribe content, but rather focuses process science-based exchange. The Protocol for Science Diplomacy presented this policy brief inspires alignment shared, cosmopolitan interests application cross-border societal challenges. It comprises set 12 procedural infrastructural principles which actors can create space constructive productive diplomacy interactions. These are: sensitivity; inclusiveness; transparency; deliberation; reciprocity; complementarity & manoeuvrability; legitimacy; alignment; evaluation; capacities; capabilities; trust. Our identifies ground rules enable us, inter alia, make meaningful steps towards tackling United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 deadline. As such, it offers roadmap next decade beyond.
